Uwchlan Hills students add their mark to their new school

On Thursday, September 12, the Uwchlan Hills Elementary School population participated in a topping out ceremony. In this ceremony, all students and staff members signed a 27.5-foot long, structural steel beam. The beam was then raised and placed on the top of what will eventually be the entrance to the school.

Topping out ceremonies are thought to have come from the Scandanavian practice of placing a tree on top of a new structure to supposedly appease the tree-dwelling spirits. This ceremony has become a long-standing tradition of construction workers to commemorate the completion of a building structure.

The new Uwchlan Hills Elementary School construction will continue through the 2019-20 school year and is on schedule to open its doors for the 2020-21 school year. To stay on top of the latest facilities news, please visit
