DASD staff hold Learning Summit

September 19, 2018 was a day of learning for DASD teachers.   Teachers in grades K-12 gathered at DHS West High School to learn, collaborate and reflect.   Educational sessions, department gatherings and food trucks were a part of this innovative day.

Keynote speaker was West Chester University professor Dr. Chris Penny.  Dr. Penny is both an Apple Distinguished Educator, and a Google Certified Teacher. His research focus is on technology integration in education.

Following Dr. Penny's address, teachers could then select and participate in dozens of sessions offered by other DASD teachers.  These sessions included classes that included 3D Modelling and Printing taught by West teacher Gavin Speirs, Vocabulary Instuction that gets to the ROOT of the Matter taught by Springton Manor Literary Specialist Nicole Heistand and Springton Manor 5th Grade teacher Barbara Hummel and Self-Expression: the colliding forces of Art and Music.  Other topics included Cultural Equity, Hyperdocs Exploration, A Climate for Learning, Grant Writing, and Keynote for Beginners.

Teachers took a break in the day to enjoy their bagged lunch or could purchase food items from four food vendors.

Thank you to all the district teachers who helped make this Professional Development Day such a success!
