Philadelphia Flyers and Wegmans bring 'Food and Fridges' to Bradford Heights Elementary
- Events
Bradford Heights Elementary School welcomed representatives from the Philadelphia Flyers, Wegmans, and Flyers mascot Gritty as part of the Food and Fridges program, an initiative designed to provide students with access to nutritious snacks.
During the visit, Flyers and Wegmans representatives installed a new branded refrigerator and stocked it, along with the school’s pantry, with healthy snacks to support after-school programs. Students helped unload food and stock the fridge, all while sharing a memorable experience with Gritty.
“We are so thankful for Wegmans and the Flyers. The donations to our Building Relationships in DASD to Grow Education (BRIDGE) after-school program are invaluable. This investment in our students’ future will have a lasting impact,” said Bradford Heights Principal Dr. Ilana Shipe.
The BRIDGE program is sponsored by the Downingtown Community Education Foundation, and provides students with additional academic support and opportunities for connections outside of the normal school day.
The Food and Fridges initiative was made possible through a partnership with the Downingtown Area School District Office of Student Relations and School Climate (SRSC), furthering the district’s commitment to student well-being and community support. Director of SRSC Justin Brown added, “It’s an amazing community partnership with Wegmans and the Flyers organization. The Food and Fridges program is going to have a tremendous impact on our students and provide valuable support to our after-school program.”
Bradford Heights Elementary School extends its gratitude to the Philadelphia Flyers, Wegmans, and all those involved in making this event a success.
