Downingtown Area School District was honored to welcome Miss Pennsylvania, Page Weinstein, for a special celebration of World Kindness Day from November 12-14. During her visit, she engaged with students at Pickering Valley, Springton Manor, and Brandywine Wallace Elementary Schools, sharing valuable insights on kindness, perseverance, and the importance of embracing differences.

Weinstein led a hands-on activity that made a lasting impact on students. She invited them to draw themselves as stick figures, write the word ‘mean’ on their papers, and crumple them up. As the students attempted to smooth out the wrinkles, she explained how unkind words can leave marks that are difficult to erase. This powerful exercise helped students understand the importance of treating others with respect and compassion.

Reflecting on the message she shared, Weinstein quoted author Clare Pooley, saying, "In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” She encouraged students to accept others for who they are, emphasizing, “Our differences are what make each of us special. By learning to celebrate these differences, we show that everyone deserves kindness and love."

Observed every year on November 13, World Kindness Day was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement and is celebrated globally, with observances in Canada, Australia, Nigeria, and the United Arab Emirates, among others. This day offers a meaningful reminder to promote empathy, inclusivity, and kindness within communities.

Justin Brown, DASD’s Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), highlighted the significance of Weinstein’s visit, saying, “Miss Pennsylvania’s message about the power of kindness resonates deeply with our community. Her stories of perseverance and hard work inspire our students to embrace empathy in their daily lives, reminding us all that kindness begins with each of us.”
