Shamona Creek opened its doors in 1990. A new lowerlevel classroom addition and new gymnasium were added in 2008. The school was named after a nearby creek, Shamona Creek, which runs through Uwchlan Township. Shamona is reportedly an Indian name meaning "little creek". The entire area along the creek bed was once referred to as Shamona Dell. A number of mills once appeared along the Shamona Creek. Records of the mills date as far back as the Revolutionary war times. The Shamona Mill was in operation 120 years ago. Records also show documentation that the Shamona Creamery was in operation along Dowlin Forge Road. O. Douglas Davison was the school's first principal, followed by Leigh Abbot, Robert Reed and our current principal Norma Jean Welsh.
