Degrees and Certifications:
Dr. Katharina Fachin Lucas
As an undergraduate at Penn State, I studied Political Science and German Literature. Then I earned a Master's degree in Elementary Education at the University of Pennsylvania. As a student teacher, I spent a year at Samuel Powel Elementary in West Philadelphia. Then I taught second grade in New Jersey for two years. I spent four years working for the University of New Hampshire and earning a doctorate in education, focusing on Curriculum and Instruction. I helped coordinate and studied a mentoring program for sixth grade girls for my doctoral research. Walk with Me: Mentoring Girls is a book I wrote based on that research. I taught fifth grade in Worcester, Massachusetts. Then I chaired a Teacher Education Program at Nichols College in Dudley, Massachusetts for four years. Now I am back to where I grew up, Pennsylvania. I have worked at Immanuel German Language School in Philadelphia for six years. I taught German 1 in Pottsgrove Middle and High School for one year. Today I love being at both the Marsh Creek Sixth Grade Center and Downingtown Middle School and seeing my own three sons in the Downingtown School District.
