2/9/19 PA halts permits for Texas-based pipline company building Mariner East.  Pensylvania Department of Environmental Protechtion suspended all reviews of clean water permit applications and other new construction permits for Texas-baseed Energy Transfer Partners and subsidiaries until further notice due to non-compliance afeter and explosion in a pipline in Beaver County.  “ETC Northeast Pipeline, operated by ET, failed to comply with the Oct. 29, 2018, order issued following the explosion along the Revolution pipeline on Sept. 10, 2018,” said DEP Secretary Patrick McDonnell. “This hold will continue until the operator corrects their violations to our satisfaction.”  This move will not halt the flow of gases through Mariner East 2, which went online the last week of December.  Click here for Daily Local article.

8/9/17 As part of its “Safe Schools” effort, the Downingtown Area School District held its 5th annual Safe Schools Summit with local law enforcement officials.  The summit helps establish organizational readiness to minimize the adverse impact any extreme event might have on the health and safety of our students and staff.    Emergency preparedness is achieved by planning, training, equipping, and testing our emergency plan’s effectiveness with drills and exercises.   Preparedness is part of a process, a sequence of learning, plan development, training, drills and critiques.   The district does not do this alone; we learn and develop our emergency responses alongside our community first-responders.   With their assistance, we identify potential crisis situations and develop emergency responses.  Click on the link to review the Pipeline Safety Slides.

8/2/17  Members of the Downingtown Area School district’s administrative team and school board attending the pipeline related public meeting hosted by the Chester County commissioners and the director of emergency services at 7:00 p.m. on August 2, 2017 in the Lionville Middle School auditorium.  The DASD group attended to gather information and listen to the County’s proposed response to a pipeline related emergency. Although the proposed pipeline does not cross any district property, several of our schools are located within the emergency evacuation area.

July/2017, district representatives met with Sunoco officials to ask questions and learn more about Sunoco’s plans to deal with a potential hazardous situation in our area. Next week, administrators will attend a meeting hosted by the Chester County Commissioners and County Director of Emergency Services specifically for school districts located along the pipeline.   The district is also hosting its annual Safety Summit this month with our Downingtown/Uwchlan/Upper Uwchlan/West Brandywine/West Bradford/Pennsylvania State Police first responders.
