Ms. Kurtz

Ms. Kurtz currently teaches ESL - English to Speakers of Other Languages – at Lionville, Shamona Creek and Springton Manor Elementary Schools. She began teaching ESL at the old Ninth Grade Center and Downingtown East High School back in 2002. Prior to that, she taught at elementary schools in Chester County, both per deim and in long-term substitute teacher positions.

 

Ms. Kurtz’s Bachelor’s Degree from Hiram College, Ohio, was in Ancient Greek Cultures and Religion. She then received a Master’s Degree in Applied Psychology from the University of Santa Monica, California. After many years working peripherally in the area of education, she decided to return to school.  She studied Children's Literature and Reading, Writing and Literacy at the University of Pennsylvania, then got her teaching certification in Elementary Education from Saint Joseph’s University. Finally, after being hired by Downingtown Area School District as an ESL tutor, she attended classes in ESL from the Chester County Intermediate Unit, where she received her final certification in ESL.
