Upon graduation, she worked with a non-profit agency in a Mayan village, San Cosme. While in the Yucatan, she taught English to a diverse group of students. Mrs. Sokira-Smith comes to us from the finger lakes region of upstate New York, where she taught for ten years at Vestal High School, an IB certified world school. Teaching a wide range of social studies and history courses, including AP United States history, at Vestal, Mrs. Sokira-Smith loves the academic rigor and student engagement that DASD offers its students.
When not teaching or preparing lessons, Mrs. Sokira-Smith loves spending time with her family, photography, hiking and travelling. In addition to her beloved twin girls and close-knit family, Mrs. Sokira-Smith absolutely loves dark chocolate.
