The DCEF "Experience" is a seven week after-school enrichment program for DASD students in grades 3 - 12. The "Experience" consists of several, fun, hands-on programs taught by our highly qualified DASD teachers. The Downingtown Community Education Foundation has been offering this program to DASD parents for the past three successful years!
Offered this year will be: .
Lego Robotics at BC, BW, EW, UH and WB - Students build LEGO robots and use software to plan, test and modify their robot's behavior. (Grades 3 - 6)
Engineering at BC, BH, BW, EW, LE, SC, SM and WB - This course offers engaging, project-based and FUN engineering activities. Students use their imaginations and skill sets to build bridges, cars and other "engineered" objects. (Grades 3 - 6, Grade 7/8 at DMS)
Forensics at BH, LE, SC, UH and MC - Students will learn how to fingerprint, analyze handwriting, spot the difference between real and counterfeit money, collect evidence, and solve a mystery! (Grades 3 - 6)
Programming at BC, BH, BW, EW, LE, SC, SM, UH, WB and MC-
Students will learn a number of programming techniques with MIT’s “Scratch” language and then create their own stories, games, and animations using this structured and fun programming environment. Their programs will also be accessible at home on any computer with an internet connection. Students who already attended “Scratch” in Fall 2014 or Summer 2015 will be able to extend their skills with more sophisticated projects of their choosing. (Grades 3 - 6)
Creative Coding through Games and Apps at DMS and LMS - using Microsoft Touch Develop, students will learn programming language to quickly learn how and write simple programs. (program runs from 2:40 to 4:40) (Grades 7 - 8)
Rocketry Experience for students in grades 7 - 12. This is a SATURDAY class and will run from 10/17 to 12/12.. The class will be held at DHS EAST. Classes begin at 8:00 am and ends at 11: am. Students will work in a classroom environment to learn the basics of Model Rocketry. This will include classroom style lessons, supervised work sessions to build 2 rockets and “launch day” on 11/14 (weather permitting). After completing this class, students are eligible to become members of the Downingtown Rocket Club.
The "Experience" will run in most locations on Tuesdays, October 20 through December 8 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. (Programs are also being run on Mondays and Thursdays in some schools so please check the schedule via the link you are being directed to below before you sign up) The DMS program will run from 3:00 to 4:30.
The cost of each program is $140 and includes all supplies and materials. Transportation is not provided and parents must make arrangements to pick up their child at 5:30 p.m.
