Mr. Andy Buchanan
Mr. Buchanan has been teaching physics at Downingtown East High School since 2007. Prior to teaching, he worked as an engineer for Lockheed Martin for 15 year and was self-employed for several years in the interim. Starting with the 2015/16 school year, Mr. Buchanan will also be teaching a new engineering course call Aerospace Engineering. This is a very exciting opportunity for our students to study aerodynamics, aircraft design, spacecrat design, etc.
Mr. Buchanan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and a Masters in Education. He is PA certified in secondary Physics and Math but normally teaches a combination of calculus based AP Physics, algebra based Honors Physics and basic Physics depending upon staffing needs.
After school, Mr. Buchanan is the faculty advisor to the Downingtown Rocket Club. The focus of the club is to develop authentic engineering skills by designing and building competition model rockets. The Rocket Club curriculum was developed based on Mr. Buchanan’s experience as an engineer not as a teacher.
