Mr. Gary Gittis

Mr. Gittis came to DASD in 1990 after 2 years with the Philadelphia Flyers organization and 4 years with the Federal Aviation Administration as a Flight Service Specialist. Bleeding Blue and White, he graduated Pennsylvania State University with a B.S in Earth Sciences and completed an M.S. Science of Education from Drexel University. The Downingtown Middle School Ecology Club got its development with him back at the Downingtown Junior High School and he has been coaching the Girls’ Basketball team since his initial year. He also spent many years as a volunteer baseball coach and commissioner for LYA, coached Quakers Ice Hockey and served as a high level ice hockey referee.

Since 1993, Mr. Gittis has brought students to Cape Cod to introduce them to whales and the Ecology of the Atlantic Coastal regions. His passion for our natural world, wildlife and animals is evident to anyone who enters his classroom. An award winning photographer, his photographs bring life to and share the scientific hobbies his extra time is used to partake in. He is a longtime leader in some of the schools many fundraisers as well as both the local (DAEA) and state wide (PSEA) education associations.
