Technology Fees & Repair Costs

Annual Technology Insurance Fees

DASD requires an annual Technology Insurance Fee to help cover the ongoing repair and replacement costs of district-issued student devices. Much like traditional insurance, this fee is collected at the beginning of each school year to protect families from unexpected expenses related to device damage or malfunction.

Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, Kindergarten Technology Insurance Fees are optional but strongly encouraged. This change was approved by the School Board on June 11, 2025. Kindergarten devices will remain at school; however, families are still responsible for any damage, regardless of where it occurs. Each Kindergarten device is assigned to the student through 4th grade.

Annual Technology Insurance Fee Structure

  • Kindergarten: $50 (strongly encouraged, but optional) Annual Payment due by September 26, 2025)

  • Grades 1–8: $50 per student (annual payment required)

  • Grades 9–12: $75 per student (annual payment required)

  • Maximum per Family: $175 per school year (does not include repair costs)

  • Fee Waivers: Students approved for free/reduced-price lunch have the Technology Insurance Fee waived. Families must reapply each year, this program is not retroactive. Please note that repair costs are not waived.

What the Technology Insurance Fee Covers

  • Technology support, application assistance, and all relevant educational software by grade.
  • Content monitoring at home, regardless of physical location.
  • Repair of warranted parts and services at no charge to the student.
  • Repair of non-warranted parts and services.
  • A loaner device if a repair or warranty service is required.
What's Not Covered by the Technology Insurance Fee
  • Intentional or malicious damage
  • Lost/damaged accessories (chargers, cables, styluses, dongles)
  • Loss or theft without proper documentation
  • Non-warranty parts such as batteries, chargers and stylus pens
  • Non-ADP (accidental damage protection) parts
Device Loss or Theft

In the case of device loss or theft, the school administration should be notified immediately. For stolen devices, a written police report must be provided within 30 days by the family and shall be considered the only official acknowledgment of a theft. The ‘deductible’ is an additional $100 to replace the stolen device, provided the Technology Insurance Fee payments are up to date. Without a police report, the failure to return a device or compensate the district for its full replacement cost may cause the debt to be transferred to a third-party collection agency. In the case of a lost device, the school administration should be notified immediately. The family assumes the full replacement cost of the device if not returned.
