Early Intervention
Welcome incoming kindergarten families!We are excited to get to know your child and to facilitate a smooth transition into kindergarten.
Does your child currently receive support from the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) Early Intervention (EI) Program and have a current Individualized Education Program (IEP)? If so, you are in the correct location! Please read below to learn about the transition process from Early Intervention to School Age Special Education Programing in Downingtown Area School District (DASD).
In DASD, our Elementary Special Education Supervisors will serve as your school district point of contact.
Incoming Early Intervention Student Transition Process
- Sign release of information form presented by CCIU to share information with DASD.
- Attend the optional DASD Parent Transition Information Meeting (October/November - optional)
- Attend your child’s meet & greet individualized transition meeting with the school district team and CCIU (November – February; scheduled by CCIU)
- Register your child for Kindergarten if you are intending for your child to transition to school-age programming (December – April; Register on our website: Student Registration)
- You will receive a letter with the District’s intent that follows one of three options:
- Accept Early Intervention IEP
- Accept Early Intervention IEP and hold IEP to make revisions
- Re-evaluate for additional information or to determine if a school-age identification criteria are present and applicable
- After the letter is sent, your elementary school psychologist or a kindergarten case manager will contact you to discuss the next steps and schedule IEP meeting or evaluation (April – June)
