Sarah Brooks

Sarah Brooks is Student Assistance Specialist for the Downingtown Area School District and over sees the Prevention Specialists.  She has been with the District and providing services to at-risk youth since 2007.  Sarah has professional experience working with adolescents experiencing significant mental health and/ or substance abuse issues. She obtained her Master’s in Clinical Psychology from West Chester University and has been licensed as an LPC or Licensed Professional Counselor since 2007.  Additionally, Sarah has her Home and School Visitor Certificate through Bryn Mawr College.

Prior to joining the Student Assistance Team at Downingtown Area School District, she worked as an SAP Liaison for the Coad Group based in Chester County.  In addition to her SAP experience, she provided direct mental health and drug and alcohol treatment through Life Counseling Services and Rehab After School.

In addition to her responsibilities with other district Prevention Specialists, Sarah coordinates District-wide programming such as QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer), PBIS, and the District Wellness Committee. She is both a Signs of Suicide (SOS) trainer and a Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) trainer.  She also works closely with the Downingtown Area Communities That Care (CTC).

Carrie Dickmann

Carrie Dickmann is a Supervisor of Pupil Services and Special Education with responsibilities for Chapter 16 (gifted support services), for Chapter 15 (504 Service Agreements), for support of School Nurses and School Counselors, and for State Reporting.  Prior to joining the Pupil Services team at Downingtown, Ms. Dickmann coordinated gifted services at Unionville High School and served as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Octorara Jr/Sr High School.

Ms. Dickmann earned her undergraduate degree (B.A. Sociology) from the University of Colorado. Upon graduation, she pursued her J.D. degree at the University of Puget Sound School of Law. When she moved to Pennsylvania in 2003, Ms. Dickmann decided to combine her passion for education and her desire to serve students into a career and secured her M.Ed in Secondary School Counseling from West Chester University. Ms. Dickmann attended Pennsylvania State University’s Education Leadership program to earn her administrative certification.

Ms. Cierra Martinez

Cierra Martinez is the Home and School Visitor, working with students in grades K-6 as well as the DCA (Downingtown Cyber Academy). She provides students and families with services regarding academic support, truancy prevention and proceedings, social, emotional, and behavioral support, homelessness, foster care, residency concerns, and exchange student coordination. She completed her Master in Social Work and Specialization in Social Work and Trauma Practice Certification at Widener University and has obtained her Home and School Visitor Certification from the PA Department of Education. Additionally, Cierra is a licensed social worker in the state of PA.

Cierra has professional experience working in both outpatient mental health and educational settings with children, youth, and adults. As a Home and School Visitor, she sees how easily children are impacted by the situations they experience at the home, school, and community levels and believes that every child deserves the passion and compassion of a social worker.
Prior to joining Pupil Services at DASD, Cierra worked as an Outpatient Therapist at Merakey of Sharon Hill (formerly NHS). Additionally, Cierra has provided individual therapy and emotional support group therapy at Southeast Delco School District specializing in the application of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).

Dr. Jamie Nunery

Jamie Nunery is the Student Services Supervisor, working with students in grades 7-12 and their families. She has been with DASD since September 2013, providing services to students and their families relating to truancy prevention and proceedings, homelessness, foster care, residency concerns, and exchange students. Jamie has a professional history of working with children and adolescents with mental health concerns in educational and judicial settings. She completed her Master in Social Work and Doctorate of Clinical Social Work at the University of Pennsylvania and has obtained her license as a Licensed Social Worker and certificates as a Home and School Visitor, School Social Worker, and Pupil Personnel Supervisor.
Prior to joining the Pupil Services Department at DASD, Jamie worked as a Child Advocate Social Worker at the Defender Association of Philadelphia. In addition, Jamie has provided direct community-based mental health services to kids and their families through The Center for Autism, Resources for Human Development Inc., and Child Guidance Resource Centers.

Shanette Bernard

Shanette Bernard was hired in August 2008 as part of the business office team before moving on to the Downingtown STEM Academy as the Administrative Assistant to the Head of School during inception as well as the inaugural year.  She remained the Administrative Assistant to the Head of School at the Downingtown STEM Academy until moving to Pupil Services as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Pupil Services.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial & Management Engineering. Prior to joining the district, Shanette worked in industry for 10 years. She is active as the founder and advisor of the Making Connections Program.
