LEVEL UP Program at Downingtown East and West Celebrates a Successful Year

The LEVEL UP program at Downingtown East and West High Schools has marked another successful year, culminating in a celebratory event that recognized the accomplishments and growth of its participants. Now in its second year, the program continues to fulfill its mission to encourage student development of purpose through mentorship, high expectations, and supportive relationships.

Designed to help students identify and harness their strengths and talents, LEVEL UP focuses on several key areas: increasing academic rigor through engagement and agency, fostering self-advocacy, providing consistent academic and social support, enabling successful student transitions, and encouraging participation in extracurricular activities. By actively reaching out to families, the program ensures that each student feels included in the Downingtown Area School District (DASD) community.

Program Advisor Lakesha Costello from Downingtown East reflected on the year’s achievements, stating, “We have seen incredible growth in our students, both academically and personally. The mentorship and support provided by LEVEL UP have empowered them to set and achieve higher goals. It’s been a joy to witness their development and to celebrate their successes with them.”

The celebration event featured various activities, including student presentations, awards, and performances that showcased the talents and achievements nurtured by the program. Families, mentors, and staff gathered to honor the hard work and dedication of the students, highlighting the positive impact LEVEL UP has had on their educational journeys.

Justin Brown, the DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) Director for the Downingtown Area School District, also shared his thoughts on the program’s impact. “LEVEL UP has been instrumental in creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for our students. By encouraging self-advocacy and engagement, we’re not only helping students reach their potential but also fostering a community where every student feels valued and included. This program is a testament to what can be achieved when we invest in our students’ futures.”

As LEVEL UP looks forward to its third year, the commitment to student development remains strong. The program plans to build on its successes by continuing to provide robust mentorship, fostering academic and social growth, and ensuring that every student has the support they need to thrive in the DASD community.
