Students from across Downingtown Area School District (DASD) and neighboring communities gathered on April 4 for the annual Cam-A-Thon, a 12-hour overnight fundraiser that brought in an impressive $45,766.41 to support Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, an organization dedicated to funding research and supporting families affected by childhood cancer.

Held from 7:00 PM on Friday, April 4, through 7:00 AM on Saturday, April 5, the event transformed the night into a celebration of community, hope, and purpose. Students participated in a wide range of activities including dancing, sports tournaments, Zumba, games, and more, all while rallying around a cause close to the heart of the DASD community.

Cam-A-Thon is held in memory of Cameron Evans, a former DASD student who passed away from leukemia in 2011. During Cameron’s treatment, his friends launched a campaign called Cure4Cam, creating handmade cards and bracelets to show their support. After his passing, the Cure4Cam Foundation was established to continue his legacy and advocate for childhood cancer research.

In recent years, the foundation transitioned its fundraising efforts to directly support Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which funds critical cancer research, raises awareness, and supports families impacted by childhood cancer.

This year’s Cam-A-Thon was organized in collaboration with Downingtown STEM Academy, Downingtown High School West, and Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, with students leading the charge in planning, fundraising, and bringing the event to life. Their dedication and energy helped create a meaningful night of impact and remembrance.

Community members who wish to continue supporting pediatric cancer research and honor Cameron’s legacy can still donate by visiting https://bit.ly/camathon.
