Downingtown Area School District students are making waves in STEM education! Lionville Middle School claimed the title of Future City National Champion, while Downingtown Middle School earned second place at the Philadelphia Regional Future City Champion.

The Future City competition challenges middle school students to imagine, design, and build cities of the future. This year’s theme, Farm to Table, asked students to design a city that eliminates food waste from farm to table while keeping citizens healthy and safe.

Competing against schools from across the country, the Lionville Middle School team, led by teacher Mr. Raines and mentor Ms. Adams, impressed the judges with their creativity, engineering skills, and commitment to sustainability. Their innovative solutions, thoughtful city design, and collaborative teamwork earned them the national title during the championship event held in Washington, D.C.

In addition to the grand prize, the team received two special awards:

  • Outstanding City Model

  • Excellence in Resilience Engineering

This is the second consecutive year a DASD middle school has won the Future City National Championship, following last year’s national win by Downingtown Middle School.

Congratulations to the talented students, teachers, and mentors whose dedication and innovation made this remarkable achievement possible!
