The Power of Connection Brings Community Together

On May 28, the Downingtown Community Education Foundation welcomed supporters, educators, volunteers, donors, students, and community partners to The Power of Connection: DCEF, DASD, and You at Whitford Country Club.

Through interactive Connection Stations, conversations with program ambassadors, and stories from across the Downingtown Area School District, guests explored how relationships and community support help create opportunities for students from kindergarten through graduation. The evening highlighted a wide range of DCEF-supported programs, including educator grants, after-school enrichment, summer learning, kindergarten readiness initiatives, student leadership opportunities, and transition supports.

The program featured remarks from DASD Superintendent Dr. Robert O'Donnell and DCEF Board President Brian Stocker, who reflected on the importance of partnership, engagement, and investing in students. Attendees also enjoyed a special performance by the DHS-West Rock Band, whose growth has been supported through DCEF's Amplify Potential Educator Grant.

Throughout the evening, guests saw firsthand how DCEF, DASD, and community supporters work together to create meaningful opportunities for students. Whether through innovative classroom projects, enrichment experiences, early learning programs, or student-centered initiatives, connection remains at the heart of this work.

Explore the Stories Behind the Connection

The interactive experience below features composite student journeys alongside real program examples from across DASD, illustrating how DCEF-supported opportunities can impact students at different stages of their educational journey. From Kindergarten JumpStart and Purposeful Play to educator grants, student opportunities, enrichment programs, and scholarships, these stories demonstrate how community support helps students learn, grow, and thrive.

Power of Connection Journeys

Connection Through Educator Innovation

Through DCEF's Educator Grant program, teachers can bring innovative ideas directly to students. The video below highlights Rhys Above, a social-emotional learning initiative supported through a DCEF Educator Grant that helps students build confidence, resilience, and meaningful connections.

Connection Through Purposeful Play

Purposeful Play helps kindergarten students develop confidence, creativity, problem-solving skills, and positive relationships through meaningful play experiences. Supported through a DCEF grant initiative, the program encourages students to learn through exploration, collaboration, and discovery. Hear directly from DASD students as they share their favorite ways to play, learn, and connect.

Who We Are

INSPIRE

Two smiling elementary students hugging

We are a foundation built on the belief that curiosity is a birthright. DCEF inspires DASD students and educators by nurturing bold ideas, championing creativity, and opening doors that help young people see new possibilities for themselves. Whether it’s a teacher imagining a fresh way to reach learners or a child stepping into school with confidence for the first time, our work begins with inspiration.

ENGAGE

We believe learning deepens when people feel seen, supported, and connected. DCEF engages students, families, educators, and community partners in meaningful ways that strengthen relationships and spark a sense of belonging. From elevating student voice to supporting collaborative school–community efforts, engagement is how we stitch together the fabric of a thriving district.

ENRICH

We enrich DASD students’ lives by expanding access to transformative learning experiences. DCEF ensures every child — across every neighborhood and background — has the opportunity to explore, grow, and thrive. We enrich classrooms, communities, and futures by investing in programs that cultivate creativity, confidence, and lifelong learning.

What We Do

DCEF turns community support into meaningful opportunities for students across the Downingtown Area School District. Through innovative programs, grants, and partnerships, we create hands-on learning experiences, expand enrichment access, support educators, strengthen family connections, and help young people thrive in and beyond the classroom. Our work spans early learning, STEAM exploration, academic support, youth empowerment, and community resource building — all rooted in the belief that every child deserves to learn, grow, and flourish.
