DHS East Band Director: German
Downingtown High School East
Andrew German is the band director at Downingtown High School East where he directs the concert bands, marching band, jazz band, pit orchestra and oversees the indoor programs. He has worked with a number of marching band programs in the greater Philadelphia region over the last 15 years. He is an active music arranger for marching bands and is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Pi Kappa Lambda National Honor Society in Music, NAfME(MENC) and PMEA.
Mr. German is a graduate of West Chester University (WCU), completing his Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education and a minor in Music History in 2009, and later returning to WCU to complete a Master’s Degree in Wind Conducting in 2014. While at WCU he had the unique opportunity to serve as student coordinator of the WCU “Incomparable” Golden Rams Marching Band for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. As part of his graduate studies he had the opportunity to work with renowned conductors such as Keith Brion, Frank Battisti and Jerry Junkin. He also served as an assistant producer on the WCU Wind Ensemble’s albums “Rites,” “Borrowed Inspirations," and "Reanimations.”
Mr. German's drum corps career began in 2006 as a member of the Reading Buccaneers Drum and Bugle Corps where he played euphonium. He continued marching with the Bucs in 2007, winning two Drum Corps Associates World Championships in his DCA performing career. In 2008, he became a member of The Cadets Baritone Section for his age-out summer in Drum Corps International.
From 2012-2018 Mr. German served as a staff member with The Cadets2 Drum and Bugle Corps. Starting with the corps’ inaugural season in 2012 he served as a visual technician and went on to serve as Visual Co-Caption Head for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. From 2015-2017 Mr. German took over the Cadets2 Brass program as Brass Caption Head, helping the corps to capture their first ever DCA World Championship title in 2016, and served as a program consultant in the corps’ final season in 2018.
