DASD, the Downingtown Community Education Foundation (DCEF) and Historic Yellow Springs (HYS) turned back the clock to September 17, 1777.  On that very wet evening, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton and the Continental Army marched into the village of Yellow Springs in West Pikeland Township to rest following the Battle of the Clouds.  To mark that occasion, DASD, DCEF and HYS recreated that little known moment in history.

On Sept 17, 2019 135 guests feasted on a Colonial Dinner in the very location where Hamilton and Washington dined in 1777 - 242 years later. Guests were entertained by music from the hit musical Hamilton performed by the award winning DHS East choir.  Following dinner professional interpreters of Alexander Hamilton and George Washington shared stories of their march through Chester County.

What is a Hoecake?  Hoecakes were George Washington’s favorite food - a cornbread cooked on the blade of a hoe over an open flame.

  • Thanks to our sponsors, guests and fabulous DHS East choir for creating such a memorable evening!
