Title 1 Program

  • Happy kids Title I is a program funded by the Federal Government. At DASD, we use Federal funds to support reading instruction for kindergarten and grade 1 students in four Title I schools: Beaver Creek, Bradford Heights, East Ward, and Lionville Elementary Schools.

To determine whether or not students in Title I schools qualify for extra support in reading, the Downingtown Area School District gives Aimsweb assessments, which measure skills that are necessary for learning to read. Qualifying families will be contacted by the school. In addition, all full day Kindergarten students automatically qualify to receive Title I services.

The parent/guardian of qualifying students receive an invitation to participate in the Title I program. Parents are asked to complete the Home/School Involvement Compact (permission form), emphasizing the need for parent involvement in the reading success of students. Once enrolled in the program, Title I students receive extra reading support during school from a certified Literacy Specialist.
