Anne Suss is the coordinator for arranging for rides for the presenters for our Holocaust Symposium held April 11, 2019. If you are available and would like the incredible opportunity to drive a Survivor, please read on!Again this year, I'm looking for drivers for the annual Holocaust Symposia held for sophomores at each of the two Downingtown High Schools. This program is a unique opportunity for our high school students to hear a first-person story of the Holocaust from a survivor. The day begins with an assembly beginning at about 9:30, featuring several of the survivors. Following the assembly, there are sessions with individual survivors, and finally there is a luncheon for the survivors, before they depart for their homes. Throughout their time at each high school, the survivors are individually escorted by 10th grade students, and the luncheon features a short musical presentation at each school. It is a truly special day for all involved. In order for the survivors to tell their stories to our students, we need volunteers that will drive them from their homes to school and back again. As you know, most of these folks are in their late eighties. It is very important that the transportation component be as easy for them as possible, so that they can spend a day sharing their experiences with the students in our community. There is no doubt that it's a long day and a lot of driving for us. We need to be picking them up from their homes between 7 and 8 am, and returning them to their homes after the program and lunch, finally returning to our homes in Downingtown somewhere around 3 pm. Many of the survivors that we will be driving live in Northeast Phila, so the drive can end up being a 1½ to 2 hour round trip. Here are the details: 2 days are available, Thursday, March 28 at Downingtown East & Thursday, April 11 at Downingtown West. I can use ANY time you can commit to, whether it be driving for only a morning, or driving both ways both days. Of course, you are invited to stay for the presentation at either school, and are welcome to join the survivors at lunch. Please *reply via email or call me with your *availability (please call my cell phone). I will also need to know some contact information for you; please let me know your *home & cell phone, since I will need that info to be able to contact you on the day you are traveling; the school would like your *mailing address as well, so that they can send you a written Thank You for your generosity.Whether you have time to help out this year or not, if you know of anyone else who is interested in this program, please forward this information on to them – we are always ready to use more volunteers! You may have them contact me directly. As we are all aware, the opportunity to hear this story from a survivor will soon become impossible. Please help us bring this important story to our students in Downingtown. Call me or email back with your availability and any questions you may have. I appreciate your flexibility! Thanks!!!Anne Sussannesuss@hotmail.comh- 610.269.6481c- 610.220.6055
