After School Programs
Winter session of after school enrichment programs will begin February 1st. All classes are virtual.
Grades 1&2:90 minute classes once a week for 5 weeks (3:30-5:00pm)Limit 12 per classANIMAL ADVENTURES - It's a Bug's Life (choose from Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays)Focus on ELA skills, reading, comprehension, research, presentation and writing while learning about animals, insects and habitats.CODING (choose from Mondays or Thursdays)Many of our daily activities involve devices that employ programs created by software developers. In coding, students will develop their problem solving and thinking skills as they learn the concepts of computer coding which can then be used to create their own games and art. Students will participate in unplugged activities as well as self-paced activities.MATH MAGIC (choose from Mondays or Tuesdays)Students will apply concepts that support and extend their current grade level standards and content. From number bonds, to deductive reasoning, children will solve problems, apply skills and engage in activities that will enrich their mind and cultivate curiosity.Fee for Grade 1&2 programs: $70 for the session $35 for students eligible for or participating in Free & Reduced Lunch program

BRAIN CHASE (Tuesdays)Learn about the explorers of Mt Everest and the treasures of the Tomb of Neferatri while you go on a virtual treasure hunt with skill building activities in science, math, and reading. Each class will include whole group and team time to decipher and find clues for the day and to get closer to the figuring out the solution to the puzzle with the whole group. There will also be independent electives/assignments in Science or Engineering each week that the teacher will review prior to the next week's class.EVERYONE CAN CREATE (choose from Mondays or Tuesdays)Students will learn to create music, photos, and video with the Apple iPad suite of tools. It is the perfect creative outlet for all students!FILM MAKING on the iPAD (choose from Mondays or Tuesdays)Students will use digital media to create a book trailer of one of their favorite chapter books. They will create a script with images and use iMovie to produce a final product.PROGRAMMING with SCRATCH (Mondays or Tuesdays)Learn computer science and create your own art, stories and games using logic and the programming language, SCRATCH. According to Steve Jobs, …”everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer because it teaches you how to think.”SIGN LANGUAGE (choose from Mondays or Tuesdays)This beginner ASL class will include instruction in beginner signs/alphabet/conversational words/culture and conclude with a celebration of signing poems, songs, etc that would be appropriate for the students’ knowledge.Fee for grade 3-5 programs: $100 for the session $50 for students eligible for or participating in Free & Reduced Lunch programSIBLING DISCOUNT: 10% sibling discount will be taken at end of registration - make sure to register all siblings at the same time.The Downingtown Community Education Foundation is committed to insuring that every child has the opportunity to participate in "The Experience". Just $10 or $20 can make a difference!A minimum enrollment of 6 is required for a class to run. Full refunds are issued for programs canceled by DCEF. Refunds will be given up to one week prior to the start of the session minus $10 administrative fee. Credit toward another program session will be given for withdrawals after the start of the program session - no refunds.
