Julie Alconera has been a member of the reading department at East since 2012. She teaches Direct Instruction English/Read 180, Reading Foundations and Content Comprehension classes and has also co-taught in 10th and 11th grade Level II English classes. She is also the faculty advisor for the ASL (American Sign Language) Club.
She grew up in Nebraska, receiving her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Nebraska. After receiving a post-bachelor degree in education, she taught 8th grade English for 3 years in Fremont, Nebraska before moving to Pennsylvania in 2009. She received her Master's in Reading from Edinboro University in 2011. She now lives in the West Chester Area with her husband and three children, Noah, Lana and Nolan. In her spare time, she likes to read books to her children and spend time outdoors.
