Washington and Hamilton spent the night in our community, and we’re bringing them back in September!
HAMILTON AND HOECAKES
SEPTEMBER 17, 2019 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
(Doors open at 6:00 p.m.)
HISTORIC YELLOW SPRINGS, THE WASHINGTON
The Downingtown Community Education Foundation (DCEF) and Historic Yellow Springs (HYS) are turning back the clock to September 17, 1777. On that very wet evening, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton and the Continental Army marched into the village of Yellow Springs in West Pikeland Township to rest following the Battle of the Clouds. To mark that occasion, the Ed Foundation and HYS are recreating that little known moment.
EVENT: A Colonial Dinner in the very location where Hamilton and Washington dined in 1777.
ENTERTAINMENT: Hamilton and Washington professional interpreters will share stories of their march through Chester County. Music from the hit musical Hamilton will be performed by our award winning DHS East choir.
BONUS: Month long Hamilton Exhibit on loan from the Gilder Lehman Intsitute at HYS.
EDUCATIONAL COMPONENT: Hamilton interpreter will give a student presentation at select DASD schools.
Why did we chose the title Hamilton and Hoecakes? Hoecakes was George Washington’s favorite food, and one of the dishes we’ll be serving to our guests that evening!
