Mrs. Nancy Legath

Mrs. Nancy Legath is a Literacy Specialist at Pickering Valley Elementary School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gettysburg College and a Master of Education from The Pennsylvania State University in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Literacy. After obtaining her M. Ed., Nancy went on to earn her K-12 Reading Specialist Certification from Penn State.  While attending Penn State, she was honored with the Henrietta Hankin Award and Endowment for Outstanding Achievement in Education.  Mrs. Legath earned an Instructional Coach Endorsement from Widener University and now serves as an adjunct instructor for Widener University.  She also holds a certificate as an English as a Second Language (ESL) Program Specialist.  Mrs. Legath is continuing her education in the EdD program at Widener University, working toward her doctorate in Cognitive Studies in Reading.

Prior to serving as Literacy Specialist, Mrs. Legath was a classroom teacher in Grades 1, 4, and 5, and a Reading Specialist in grades 6 and 7. Mrs. Legath has held several leadership positions at DASD. She served as the K-5 Communications Curriculum Leader, as well as the First Grade - Grade Level Leader. In addition to her passion for teaching reading, Mrs. Legath loves music. She is the Music Director for the annual PV musical and volunteer accompanist for the Pickering Valley chorus and orchestra.

DASD Literacy Specialists monitor and strengthen the instructional program by providing literacy instructional support to teachers and direct instruction in literacy to select students.  Additionally, DASD Literacy Specialists deliver professional development and coach teachers in effective literacy strategies.
